Moments from Dawn to Dusk <br/> Demi Kahn
Demi Kahn is a sculptural fiber artist from Houston, Texas, with a background in geology. Her work explores the tension between strength and softness, combining traditional techniques like macramé and weaving with unexpected materials to create bold, dimensional forms. Often suspended in space, her sculptures feel organic and alive, like they’re caught in a moment of transformation.
Largely self-taught, Kahn approaches her practice as both a physical and emotional process. Her pieces invite viewers into a slowed-down experience, one that blurs the boundary between the external and internal. She is drawn to color, repetition, and intuitive structure, building environments that ask people to pause, reflect, and feel.
Rooted in curiosity and a desire to connect, Kahn’s work balances a love for tactile making with a quiet reverence for the unknown. Her installations suggest movement without direction, growth without conclusion reminding us that presence is rarely still and that meaning often lives in the in-between.
Demi Kahn is a sculptural fiber artist based in Houston, Texas. With a background in geology and a largely self-taught art practice, her work blends traditional textile techniques like macramé and weaving with unexpected materials. Kahn creates large-scale, immersive installations that explore the tension between strength and softness, structure and intuition. Her sculptures often take the form of suspended environments—dimensional, colorful, and organic—that invite viewers to slow down and reflect. Through repetitive, tactile making, she considers themes of presence, transformation, and the non-linear nature of healing. Her work is informed by a reverence for both the physical world and the emotional undercurrents that shape it. Kahn has exhibited at Gallery Diderot (France), Lawndale Art Center, and the Lanecia Rouse Tinsley Gallery in Houston. In 2025, she presented her solo exhibition Narrow Gate at LAR Gallery, featuring a new body of work focused on consciousness, memory, and the quiet complexity of being. She is a recipient of the Etsy Design Award (2020), the Denis Diderot Grant
(2022), and the Emerging Artist Grant from Château Orquevaux.
